This year, we’re celebrating our 40th anniversary—and we’re so proud of it!
There have been so many accomplishments!
In 2004, the arrival of a new board of directors brought with it a bold vision: to choose euthanasia only as a last resort, and only when an animal's suffering is too great and there are absolutely NO other options to treat or offer it a quality life.
At the time, this seemed impossible… and yet, we achieved it.
Since then, our shelter has become a place where every animal gets a chance to live and find a new family, no matter their background (illness, surgery, accident, behaviour issues, abandonment, etc.). All of this is done with respect for the animal and its life.
THE CHALLENGE: Since every animal arriving at the shelter would be kept alive, we were going to have a very large number of animals at the same time.
THE SOLUTION: Become the best at adoptions.
How did we do it?
By surpassing ourselves.
By questioning our ways of doing things.
By making the adoption process easier (evaluating animals and putting them up for adoption quickly, removing appointments and complex forms…).
By focusing on beautiful photos and presentation texts that highlight the animals.
By prioritizing open conversations with adopters.
By opening our hearts and minds, trusting that the people who want to adopt would show up to help us.
RESULT: we saved MORE animals.
Fifteen years ago, we helped 1,000 animals per year.
Now, it’s over 2,000.
Fifteen years ago, we transferred about 250 animals to other shelters for adoption.
Now, we’re the ones helping other shelters and taking in over 300 additional animals.
Fifteen years ago, the average stay for a cat or dog was 6 months to over a year.
Now, our animals find a family on average in 3 weeks, which reduces their stress, improves their well-being, and allows us to help even more.
WITHOUT YOUR SUPPORT, NONE OF THIS WOULD BE POSSIBLE.
You, who believe in us, support our mission, and share our vision—thank you for standing by our side.
Your commitment gives us confidence and inspires us to take on the challenges of the next 40 years.
